Psicon is proud to provide a new ASC service.

In light of World Autism Awareness Week (1st – 7th April 2019), Psicon hosted an Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) training event for Commissioners, GP Practices, Clinicians, IAPT services and students.

We aimed to improve attendees knowledge and understanding of ASC in adults, whilst exploring strategies for them to use when supporting those with autism and providing an insight into therapeutic opportunities.

The session was chaired by Sonet Strijdom, Senior Clinical Psychologist, who opened the morning and reflected on her experience working with adults with ASC.

This was followed by an interactive talk from Cliff Robins, Consultant Psychologist, exploring common traits of those with autism, and effective communication strategies.

Jessika Hulbert, the mother of one of our service users, gave a powerful reading on how her son’s journey with autism has influenced him and their family. This gave a personal insight into the positive effect that an ASC assessment and diagnosis can have.

Maryam Keshavarzi, Senior Assistant Psychologist, gave an overview of Psicon’s model of our quality ASC service. She explained the process for service users; starting with the initial referral to Psicon, the structure of assessment days, and Psicon’s post-diagnostic support services.

The talks were followed by a question and answer session with Psicon’s clinicians.

Following the event, we held a bake sale in order to raise money for the National Autistic Society. We are pleased to say we raised a total of £170.61 from the kind donations received from attendees and staff.
